Mallika Sherawat: A taboo tale

What makes her so different from the rest of Bollywood babes? Is it her I give it a damn attitude? Is it her over the deck statements? Is it her clothes shedding prowess? Certainly, a thought to ponder about.

In an era when sultry Bollwood actresses like Kareenas and Preitys were ruling the kingdom, Mallika Sherawat started with minimal role in Jeena sirf mera liye, quite a forgetful start to her Bollywood aspirations. The dancing tune came with 17 smooches in Khawaish when for the first time people started recognizing her or may be her lips. Numerous eyebrows were raised and paparazzi tagged her as a sex doll. Her contempories missed no chance to ridicule her and often breaking into giggles at the mere mention of her. I still remember when a top notch Bollywood actress was asked whether she could do a Mallika. A big no came as a reply.

Hypocrisy thy name is Bollywood. These actresses who consider Mallika as untouchable, have generously revealed their assets in movies and when they are questioned on exposing, pat comes the reply, I have my limitations. God knows what this term 'limitation' means?

Unlike her counterparts, this Haryanvi damsel has atleast no qualms in accepting that her body is her greatest asset. It has been a long and stiff journey for Mallika, from Haryana to Cannes. With no filmi connection, it is a sort of achievement. Mallika has always been given a damp squib by critics, media, audience and by one and all. How many of us have Mallika as their favorite actress? I guess very few. However whenever there is a Mallika movie crowds flock theatres to catch a glimpse of her plunging neckline or her legs (yeah I know who goes to see her acting).

Sherawat's acting skills are definitely a matter of contention. But when actors like Akshay, Sunil and actress like Esha can acquire acting skills with experience, even Mallika can do so.
I often wonder why Mallika is not a role model for Indian girls. Isn't she a self made successful girl, who is not hypocrite and knows what she wants in life? The problem is that we Indians can't accept straight forward people. We enjoy watching bodies but always scorn sex in movies. We want a girlfriend who wears micro minis but want to marry someone who wears traditional clothes. May be that is the reason we don’t praise achievements of people like Mallika.
